Cooking & Touring Tuscany Tour (6 days) - small group Guided Tour.

This trip combines cooking classes on Tuscan cuisine, with wine tasting and visits to wineries, and with visits to
San Giminiano, San Miniato, Lari and Volterra, mostly out of the tourist
beaten tracks, to discover parts of Tuscany that are still intact from
medieval times, and relatively tourist free.
Especially dedicated to those who love Italian cuisine, wine and culture, this is a touring
"hands-on" cooking course by expert home-cooks and one chef, teaching
traditional Tuscan and Italian cuisine. Five cooking classes by different
cooks, in different kitchens, so to give you a wide experience of cooking
styles. And every day you will have a tour to visit an art town or a special
site of our region.

DAY BY DAY ITINERARY

Day 1 / Pisa - San Miniato
Your trip starts today with your arrival in Pisa, the city
of the leaning tower and a gem in Tuscany’s crown. No activities are planned
so you may arrive at any time, and you have the entire day available to you
for a visit of Pisa, with its leaning tower and the "Campo dei Miracoli".
The nearby cathedral and baptistery are also worth visiting. You can take a
walk through the charming historical centre of Pisa and find yourselves now
surrounded by local Italian students, instead of foreign tourists! There really is so
much to see in Pisa, so if you are arriving earlier, plan to make a few
discoveries of your own.

Arrival to San Miniato in the afternoon, between 5 and 6 PM. We
will pick you up at the
San Miniato Railroad Station.
Welcome at the Vallacchi Farm, where you will settle
into your room after meeting your hosts. You will meet your fellow traveling companions at a
Welcome Meeting with Aperitivo, where your leader will give you a briefing on what lies
ahead on your tour. This is followed by an homemade dinner by your host Loredana.

Day 2 / cooking class and Lari
In the morning you will have a cooking class by Concetta at the Querceto, at
her farm, specializing in Tuscan traditional cuisine. Lunch will be at her farm
accompanied by wines of her production.
In the afternoon we will reach Lari,
where we will be visiting the Martelli's pasta factory and a famous 14th Century
castle of the Medici family.
The dinner will be served at the Vallacchi farm by our host
Loredana.

Day 3 / cooking class and San Miniato
Class by Michela at her farm-house to enjoy making and baking pizza
and schiacciata in an antique wood-fire brick-oven... and eating all
together with good wine and Vin Santo al fresco in her garden.
In the afternoon you will be taken to visit San
Miniato where, in addition to the visit of the city, you will visit a
renowned winery with wine tasting.
Dinner at your lodge.

Day 4 / Volterra and cooking class
Today we will take you to visit Volterra, the fascinating town
where you will discover the Etruscan, Roman and Medieval history and art.
Lunch will be at a typical restaurant in Volterra.
Evening cooking class by chef Bartolo based
on historical recipes of Italian Renaissance, followed by dinner at his
restaurant.

Day 5 / cooking class and San Giminiano
Cooking class by Emanuela on traditional Tuscan cuisine and saffron
specialties at her farm, lunch with wine of her production.
In the afternoon you will be taken to San Giminiano,
the medieval "towers town".
The dinner will be served at the Vallacchi farm.

Day 6 / San Miniato
Loredana's cooking class in her kitchen, based on traditional Italian
hand made pasta, at her farm-house.
Lunch will be at the farm-house restaurant.
Departures After lunch, transfer
to San Miniato railroad station for departures.

Vallacchi Farm is a typical Tuscany farmhouse, dating back on the first half of century
18th, renovated by Loredana and Massimo, maintaining the original characters but
furnishing the modern comfort, including a swimming-pool (6x12 meters)
placed on a natural terrace overlooking the countryside.
The farm extends
for 10.000 square meters in the pure Valdegola valley, it stands in front of
the old church of S. Giovanmni a Corrazzano and, even if on a flat land, it
is surrounded by a wonderful landscape with the typical colors of Tuscany in
every season.
Our guests are hosted in a number of bedrooms with bath and apartments in a
familiar atmosphere which gives warmth to a peaceful holiday.
Free farm animals (geese and chickens), donkeys (Mimě and Pedro), a
horse (Delfi), dogs (Tirilla, Willy and Totta), cats (Nerone, Spenna) and
some more without a name complete the family of Loredana, Massimo and their
daughter Marta (16).
Here the life is simple and respectful of nature; no
pesticides, herbicides nor chemical products are used to grow the vegetables
and they get olive-oil, wine, honey, cheese, cereals and meat from the nearby
country peasants.
Their meals are prepared with organic food and also the animals
are fed with organic products.

TOTAL PRICE, lodging in double room, classes, tours, transportation,
meals with wine, sales tax and everything:
Euro 1,800.00 (per person, taxes included). Single-room extra
Euro 150.00
For your best enjoyment the tour is limited to 8 persons.
Changes to the program will be communicated to the participants together
with the travel vouchers, and at that time approval of the changes will be
asked for, last minute changes will be communicated at the reception.

Terms and conditions of payment and cancellation:
- A payment of 50% is due at reservation. The travel
voucher will be sent after the payment has been cashed. This advance payment
will be reimbursed at 80% in case of cancellation up to 30 days before the
date of the trip, it will not be reimbursed for cancellations after the 30
days before the trip date.
- The balance of the payment is due before 30 days prior to
the trip date. The balance will be reimbursed at 60% for cancellations before 20
days from the trip date. The balance will not be reimbursed for cancellations
after 20 days before the trip date.
- Payments with credit card are accepted. Payments with
cashier check, money order or personal check are accepted for payment of the
balance.
Getting to San Miniato
Flying note: We recommend that you land at
Pisa Galileo Galilei (code PSA) International Airport, check the convenient
fares of
RyanAir from London Stansted (STN). The airport is
located near to Pisa and is the more common arrival airport for
flights originating in Europe. For flights coming from North America there
are easy connections in Rome, Milano Malpensa and Paris.
Transfer from the Pisa airport to San Miniato can be arranged on request, Euro 30 per person.
Train note: there are direct trains to San Miniato
from the Pisa airport, from Pisa downtown and from the Florence Santa Maria Novella station,
one almost every hour. We suggest visiting
www.trenitalia.com for exact
timetable information. Should you be arriving by rail,
Florence's central Stazione di Santa Maria Novella is a hub for direct
services from cities such as Milan (three hours), Venice
(three hours) and Bologna (one hour).
Driving note: from Florence or from Pisa,
take the S.G.C freeway, also called Fi-Pi-Li (Firenze-Pisa-Livorno), and exit at San Miniato. Not far
from the exit there is the San Miniato railroad station, where we can meet you.
